Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Nurse Training Program

Our IBD nurse specialists are key members of our daily care delivery team. Therefore, we are committed to developing programs to educate nurses and nursing students about inflammatory bowel diseases.

During our programs, nurses and nursing students learn about symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and are introduced to our value-based approach to management of inflammatory bowel diseases. This is done through case-based presentations, formal lectures and audience participation activities.

On June 10, 2013, more than 100 UCLA nurses attended "Caring for Your Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Patient" education program. The program was designed to educate attendees on the basics of clinical management, including medical and surgical options, and also provide recent updates on therapeutic alternatives and special considerations in IBD. On August 17, 2012, we hosted our first nurse training program for nursing students from the UCLA School of Nursing. We look forward to many more training programs in the future and to ensure that as many nurses as we can reach are knowledgeable about Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and can assist in care delivery with confidence and compassion.
